Independent Finnish game developer Horsefly Games has unveiled a brand-new teaser trailer for The Polar Darkness, an upcoming psychological horror adventure that blends Finnish folklore, Lovecraftian cosmic horror, and surreal storytelling.
Set in the isolated countryside of 1980s Finland, The Polar Darkness invites you into a world where familiar rural surroundings conceal something deeply unnatural. Drawing inspiration from Finnish mythology, the works of H.P. Lovecraft, and the surreal atmosphere of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, the game combines psychological tension, bizarre encounters, and an increasingly disturbing mystery. One of the game’s most distinctive features is its visual presentation. The Polar Darkness combines atmospheric 3D environments with photographed live-action actors, creating a striking aesthetic that evokes classic adventure games while establishing its own unsettling identity.
The new teaser offers another glimpse into the game’s nightmarish world, where the boundaries between reality and the impossible begin to dissolve.
A Finnish Horror Game Finding Its Audience
Developed as a solo passion project, The Polar Darkness has been steadily attracting attention from horror enthusiasts and indie game fans. The game recently surpassed 7,000 Steam wishlists and received the Audience Choice Award at Pocket Gamer Connects Nordic 2026, where event attendees voted it their favorite among the indie games showcased.
With development progressing toward its planned 2027 release, the new teaser marks another milestone for the project.
