A forgotten mountain holds the gold, gems, and ancient artifacts needed to restore your kingdom. Getting them home starts with a handful of dwarves, a carefully chosen route, and a torch that will only burn for so long.
Following its August public playtest, the game returns with improvements shaped by player feedback, including clearer upgrade information, new blueprint requirements, expanded forest expedition options, and more convenient building management. King in the Mountain is also participating in Serbian Games Week on Steam.
The Mountain Is Rich. Your Time Is Limited.
You choose where your dwarves should dig, mapping routes through the mountain before watching your workers carve through the earth. Nearby resources offer an immediate return, while a longer tunnel might lead to something more valuable. Every decision takes time, and every expedition lasts only as long as the torch keeps burning. When the light runs out, the dwarves return to base to regroup. With no combat, the focus stays on planning, resource management, and the satisfaction of making the next expedition more productive. Better tools speed up the work. More dwarves expand what the crew can accomplish. A longer-lasting torch puts previously unreachable treasure within reach.
Every Haul Builds a Better Home
Between expeditions, the Mountain Hall becomes the heart of the player’s growing kingdom. Construct and arrange rooms, connect them with tunnels, and establish workshops such as smelteries, ore mines, and kitchens. Manage production, recruit workers, and turn the resources brought back from the mountain into equipment and upgrades for future journeys. Progress is visible both underground and at home: routes become more efficient, expeditions reach further, and an increasingly capable settlement takes shape around the dwarves.
Key Features:
- Direct your mining expeditions: choose where to dig and plan efficient routes toward gold, gems, and ancient artifacts.
- Make the most of your torchlight: weigh the time needed to reach each resource before the expedition ends.
- Restore the Mountain Hall: build rooms, establish workshops, and organize production to support your growing kingdom.
- Develop your workforce: hire dwarves, improve their tools, and prepare for deeper expeditions.
- Discover new possibilities underground: recover blueprints needed to unlock certain buildings and recipes.
- Enjoy a calm progression loop: plan, dig, return, upgrade, and set out again.
Improved After the Public Playtest
The demo incorporates a range of changes following the August playtest:
- Clearer guidance: a new in-game guide book and recipe descriptions directly within the upgrade tree help players understand their options.
- Easier settlement management: a wider camera zoom and a building-focused view make it easier to inspect workshop activity. Selecting a building while in Tunnel Mode now opens it and exits that mode.
- More manageable production: newly unlocked recipes default to producing until the base holds 10 of the item, instead of running continuously.
- More to work toward: certain building and recipe upgrades now require blueprints found in the mines. Craftable forest tools increase the number of dwarves that can join forest expeditions, while a new tracker records completions of individual forest maps.
